Sunset Beach Tarpon Springs

Sunset Beach Tarpon Springs in Southwest Florida

Sunset Beach Tarpon Springs is in Southwest Florida. Sunset Beach is not technically in Tarpon Springs but it’s so close that most people visiting Tarpon Springs make a point of visiting Sunset Beach.

We did too! After morning coffee and baklava at Hellas Bakery in Tarpon Springs, we headed over to Sunset Beach. It’s about a ten minute drive east on Gulf Road.

Though Sunset Beach is connected to the mainland by a land bridge, it extends far off shore and into the ocean, making for a more “island” feel.

If you like nature and want a more “natural” island beach feel, you’ll enjoy this beach. There are lots of natural rocks and trees.

This is NOT a straight stretch of over-manicured beach that you find along much of the coastline further south.

This is a more natural beach where you may encounter seaweed and birds and lizards, and rocks and grass.

The park is clean and plenty of amenities including picnic shelters, playground, restrooms, volleyball nets and plenty of easy parking.

The beach is nearly 300 degrees around except for the road in and out, giving it a huge expanse of fantastic white sandy beach area.

There’s plenty of clean shallow water with lots of swim area. It’s a great beach to bring kids.

Because it’s out of the way from the mainland, and generally not overcrowded, you’ll probably see lots of fish and maybe some crabs as soon as you enter the water.

I wish I had brought my snorkeling gear when I visited this day, it’s on my to-do list next time I visit!

Swimming is generally a little more enjoyable here in the spring/summer months when (in our experience) the water is clearer and calmer.
