Seasonal Guide of Best Times to Visit Florida

Winter in Florida (November to February)

November to early January is the best time to travel to Florida for… warmer weather, no hurricane threats and some extra holiday joy!

Winter is peak season in Florida, with plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures in the 70s.
This is the ideal time to escape the cold weather, but be prepared for higher prices and larger crowds.

Popular destinations like Miami and Orlando will be bustling with tourists. But if you want to avoid crows while enjoying warmer weather and holiday fun… check out smaller towns like Key West, Siesta Key, Sanibel Island and Naples.

There are Corn Mazes, Holiday Festivals, Christmas Tree Farms and Holiday Light Shows and Parades that pop up all over Florida in November. And aside from a few drastic dips into the mid to high 30’s… temperatures usually remain pleasant most of this season.

Bring a sweater or light jacket for nights, and a few extra layers in case temps drop a bit for a day or two… and you should be just fine.

Spring in Florida (March to May)

Spring is the best time to travel to Florida to avoid summer heat and crowds, and enjoy the best temperature and weather for swimming, snorkeling and paddling adventures.

Spring is a fantastic time to visit Florida. The weather is fantastic, with temperatures in the 70s and 80s, making it perfect for outdoor activities.

You’ll enjoy fewer crowds compared to the peak season, and the natural world comes alive with blooming flowers.

However, be prepared for spring break crowds, especially in popular destinations like Miami, Orlando and Tampa.

Summer in Florida (June to August)

Summer is the best time to travel to Florida for enjoying the cold 72 degree Florida springs!
The springs remain this constant cold year-round, so summertime heat offsets the cold water making it a wonderfully enjoyable experience.

Summer in Florida means hot and humid weather. Temperatures can soar into the 90s, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Mosquitoes are also a nuisance for those who love outdoor activities.

While the crowds may be smaller compared to peak season, the summer months also bring hurricane season (June to November).

If you’re an adventure seeker who doesn’t mind the heat and humidity, there are plenty of water-based activities to enjoy.

See below on tips for planning a Florida trip during peak hurricane season.

Fall in Florida (September to October)

Fall is often considered the “shoulder season” in Florida, offering a pleasant balance of warm weather and fewer crowds.

Hurricane season is still a possibility, but the risk gradually decreases as the season progresses. October and November are particularly enjoyable months with comfortable temperatures and lower prices on flights and accommodations.

More Florida Travel Planning Tips

  • Beach lovers: For optimal beach weather, aim for the spring or fall months to avoid the biggest crowds along with high heat and humidity (and mosquitoes!). But there are plenty of beaches that aren’t too crowded in the summer months also worth considering. Here are some more Florida Best Beaches to visit and tips on when to visit here.

  • Theme park enthusiasts: If you’re planning a family vacation centered around theme parks, consider visiting during the less crowded months of September to November or January to February (excluding school breaks). The general rule of thumb: when school is out, it’s lots more crowded and the lines are long!

  • Budget travelers: For more affordable options, consider visiting during the off-peak seasons of spring or fall.

Remember, Florida offers something for everyone, no matter the time of year. By considering factors like weather, crowds, and budget, you can choose the perfect time for your Florida vacation.

Florida Weather: Sunshine and Storms

Florida is known for its warm, sunny weather, but it’s essential to understand the two important other seasons:

Hurricane Season: Be Prepared

Hurricane season officially runs from June 1st to November 30th, with peak activity between mid-August and late October.

While it’s impossible to predict exactly when or where a hurricane will strike, it’s crucial to be prepared. Hurricanes can form rapidly, sometimes within a week or less.

If you’re booking flights and hotels during hurricane season, consider purchasing tickets with flexible change or refund policies…. just in case.

Florida’s Rainy Season: A Hidden Gem

While the summer months (June to September) bring the highest chance of rain, this period also offers a unique opportunity for visitors who don’t mind a little wet weather.

The rainy season often results in shorter wait times and fewer crowds at popular attractions like theme parks. A poncho or umbrella is all you need to enjoy your Florida vacation without interruption.

Remember, Florida’s weather can be unpredictable, so it’s always a good idea to check the forecast before planning outdoor activities.
