Treasure Coast of Florida

Treasure Coast of Florida refers to the picturesque stretch along the state’s eastern shore, encompassing Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin counties.

The name supposedly came from a massive hurricane in 1715 that wiped out the Spanish Treasure Fleet. Hundreds of Spanish Galleons were shipwrecked along this coastline, pouring mega loads of coins and other treasures onto the ocean floor.

Today, the Treasure Coast captivates visitors with its pristine beaches, historic landmarks, vibrant communities, and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities.

Treasure along the Treasure Coast?

After hurricanes and heavy storms, people with metal detectors head out to the beaches along the Treasure Coast and search for washed up old coins and antiques. Yes, there is apparently still pieces of these treasures that wash up today!

But besides the shipwrecks and lost treasure along the coast, the water and beaches are also considered to be a treasure. The water is a beautiful blue, the beaches are sandy and clean and the Florida weather is (almost always) full of blue skies and sunshine.
